Trip to IKEA

The IKEA store in Charlotte opened recently, so today Cass and I decided to go check it out. He picked out these colorful bowls there, and prefers to use them as toys instead of eat out of them.

We also finally found something to store his toys in for the living room. It's been hard to find the perfect basket for his toys, because we need something that is short enough for him to reach the bottom, but tall enough that our two dogs (that seem to have never outgrown their puppy stage) won't get into it. I think we found the perfect basket at IKEA. Cass is so glad to have such easy access to his toys now. His latest thing is he picks up a toy, says "huh?" and shows it to me until I tell him what it is, then he picks up another toy and does the same thing, and continues until he has done this with everything in sight. Here's a taste of this -

Cass: "Huh?" Mommy: "Penguin"

Cass: "Huh?" Mommy: "Book"

Cass: "Huh?" Mommy: "Duck". (You get the picture . . .)

Latest Stats

Cass had his 18 month checkup yesterday . . . here are his measurements:

- Weight 23 lbs, 5 oz (20th percentile)

- Height 34 inches (90th percentile)

- Head 18 1/4 inches (25th percentile)

He continues to be lanky, but we were glad to see he has moved up to 20th percentile in weight - he's gaining! :) The doctor said that a reliable method to predict how tall he will be as an adult is to take his 2 year height and double it. Chris is hoping for him to be 6'2", so if he gains 3 inches in the next six months (which at the rate he has gone shouldn't be a problem, but we'll see), he should be there! I definitely think we have the Garcia genes to thank for his height. And he gets his poor little head from me. As for where he gets the genes for his trim figure?? Well, people usually assume it came from me (no offense Chris - ha), but I was not a skinny baby. Guess who was though . . .

My day out with Daddy

Chris was off work Monday for President's Day, and I had to work, so he and Cass got to spend the day together. Chris took pictures on his phone of what they were doing and sent them to me throughout the day. Here are the pictures of their adventures . . .

They started off the morning with an absolutely NOT nutritious breakfast at McDonald's. This is already a big day for Cass, because Mommy does not feed him that cr*p! :)

Then they were off to Lowe's to do some manly shopping.

Wow, someone is already tuckered out. Could it possibly be that he feels gross from the cr*p he had for breakfast? ha ha

Up from the nap, and out again . . . where could they be going now?

Zoo

Monday's snow did not stick around for long . . . today was a beautiful day - sunny and 74 degrees! We decided to take advantage of the nice weather, and went to the Lazy 5 Ranch in Mooresville. It is an open area zoo, with a 3.5 mile trail you drive your car through, and the animals roam free and will come up to your car windows hoping for food. We saw giraffes, zebras, a rhinocerous, water buffalo, camels, ostriches, wild pigs, and several other animals that we weren't quite sure what they were. Cass called every animal we saw a dog . . . he doesn't seem to understand exactly what dog means. At the end of the trail we went to a petting zoo. Here's Cass looking at something that we think is maybe a sheep.

Snow!!

It snowed last Monday - we rarely get snow here in North Carolina, so it was Cass's first time seeing the snow. He wasn't very impressed with it and it was soooo cold, so we weren't outside for long.

I think this is cute . . . it is Daddy's big shoeprints and Cass's little shoeprints in the snow on the driveway.

Today we took Cass to the mall for a ride on the Merry-Go-Round. He loved watching it go around when others were riding, but he wasn't quite sure what to think once he took a ride - I think he was a little bit scared.

I know this next little story has nothing to do with the picture, but I'm so excited - Cass finally gives kisses!!! They are the type of kisses that only mommy and daddy enjoy at this point . . . he comes at us with his mouth wide open, and it stays that way when he makes contact, so to anyone else it would be a nasty treat of toddler drool, but we think it is adorable! :)

Big Brother

To our loyal blog readers, I am sorry it's been so long since my last post! Things have been crazy here lately . . . this is the busy time at work for both Chris and I, and on top of that I've been super tired, because Cass is going to be a big brother! Yes, I'M PREGNANT . . . due August 2! We heard the heartbeat at our doctor appointment a few days ago, and it was just as moving as it was when we first heard Cass's heartbeat. We are very excited! Now that I'm over the sickness that comes with the first trimester, I hope to do better at keeping the blog updated.

Cass is really into books lately, but he is also very busy these days and is constantly multi-tasking - as you can see in the picture, he was eating a cracker, running around the house with a balloon, and taking a short break to read a page from a book with Daddy.
