Cass had his 9 month doctor appointment this morning. Soon after he was born, he was measuring tall and skinny (with a small head, I still think it's strange that they measure that), but with each appointment he seems to be inching down closer to average height for his age, and remains skinny. Today's appointment proved to be no different . . . our little guy weighed in at 17 lbs, 9.5 ounces (which also includes the stuffed fish toy he was holding on the scale), and he measured 27 3/4 inches in height and 17 centimeters for head circumference. So, this boils down to only 5th percentile in weight, 45th percentile in height and 10th percentile in head. The doctor is not at all concerned, because he continues to grow and gain at the right pace.
Chris hasn't given up on his dream of Cass becoming an NFL linebacker, because the doctor said that until a child is 2 or 3 you can't really tell how big they may be; however, the doctor did seem to be encouraging Chris to hope for a kicker or quarterback instead. I suggested Cass may end up being the right size to be a horse jockey. :) While the doctor and Chris both seem to think my genes are the reason Cass seems to be petite, I must point out that I was a pudgy baby and Chris was a skinny baby (in his baby pictures he looks just like Cass), so who knows, he may grow up to be like Daddy after all!
